Genesis Weekend - Running Order
The details of what's happening when during the upcoming Genesis Weekend at the Limelight Club in Crewe are emerging; here's what we have so far:
Friday April 5
Saturday April 6
Sunday April 7
Apart from the 12 noon event openings, all timings are approximate. The auction in particular may take longer than advertised depending on how much cash everyone has to spend for the items on offer! The list of available items can be seen in a News entry below, and other items will be added including (hopefully) some items from some of the band members themselves.
Genesis Weekend - Auction Items
Part of The Genesis Weekend, that is being held at The Limelight Club in Crewe in April, is an auction of Genesis memoribilia, with all proceeds going to charity - specifically Alder Hey Children's Hospital, the Imperial Cancer Fund, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Some of the donated items are listed below; more will be announced soon. A full list of auction items will be available at the venue on the day of the auction.
Steve Hackett - Exclusive News Update
TWR can exclusively reveal the following news, hot of the press from Billy Budis, Steve's manager:
"Recently Steve has been mixing the Buenos Aires (electric) and Budapest (acoustic) shows for DVD release. These are the first 5.1 audio mixes we've undertaken, so it's been what's politely referred to as 'a learning experience'! We have acoustic shows in Italy from April 23 to 28, and of course the band show at NEARfest at the end of June, with the prospect of further shows around that. Meanwhile, Steve has been asked to write a completely new piece for percussionist Evelyn Glennie, which is to be premiered by both of them at The Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on July 21. Oh... and there's a new studio album to write and record (I've asked him to hurry up with that ...!)"

In addition we have an extra 70s show (Newcastle City Hall, since you asked) to add to the box and that one will be available exclusively from the website. TWR may well be twisting Paul's arm to produce a special commemorative T-shirt for the event...! The Genesis Weekender will eb taking place from Friday, April 5 to Sunday, April 7, 2002. Steve Hackett Rumours Explained
As a result of Steve's recent tour of South America, a number of rumours have emerged - these can now be explained thanks to Billy Budis of Kudos Management...
More Ant Reissues
Anthony Phillips' remaining Virgin Records albums "The Geese & The Ghost", "Wise After The Event" and "1984" are due to revert to Voiceprint Records in 2003. It is hoped that these will be re-packaged and with extra material and, in the case of "Wise...", will hopefully have the original running order restored and the link tracks and EP material (omitted from the vinyl edition) restored to them. The Pavilion, Anthony's fan club will be celebrating its tenth anniversary next year with a second edition of "The Archive Collection" including several archival tracks. There are also tentative plans for a series of "Fan club only" CDs depending on the availability of suitable material as we continue to catalogue Anthony's tape archives.
Hackett Archive Opened
Details are emerging of live archival releases of Steve Hackett concerts from the last three decades. Scheduled for release in October/November 2001, the three dates planned are:
There is also the possibility of a double live CD taken from Steve's "Bay Of Kings" gig in Edinburgh, 1983, in consideration for release early 2002.
Record-breaking Charity Drumathon
Drummer with Genesis tribute band Invisible Touch, Phil Hanuman Divyanjali Durga Duke, will later this year be performing a record-breaking show in aid of the BBC Children In Need Appeal. She will be hoping to break the world record for endurance drumming by performing for 40 hours continuously. The show will include two full gigs, as well as Phil accompanying pre-recorded backing tracks.
TWR can exclusively reveal that the venue for this event, which will take place on November 15 and 16, 2001, will be the ever-popular Limelight Club in Crewe.
Full details of the event - entitled "The Ultimate Phil Collins Tribute 2001" can be found at the website for the project, www.ultimatephilcollinstribute.com. Why not show your support for the event by sponsoring this record breaking attempt?
Latest Phil Collins' News
TWR has received the following information from Phil's PA, Annie Callingham, regarding his current activities:
"He's recently been to LA, where he recorded a few more songs for the new Disney film 'Bears' that he's working on. This is not due for release until 2003, so he has another couple of years work there. He has also been writing songs for a new solo album, there is no release date yet but probably late 2002. The 'Love Songs' album has been postponed yet again with no new release date; this is a collection of old songs but may have a couple of new songs on it. He's also recorded a third BBC Radio 2 series on Big Bands, but I don't yet know the dates it will be aired. Other than that, he's keeping a low profile and enjoying life with Orianne and their new baby, Nicholas.
There was due to be a mini Big Band tour this summer but that was cancelled last year after Phil found out about the baby being due. He may tour after the new album is released but it's only a possibility right now."
ReGenesis News
The ReGenesis camp has announced, that after their tour this autumn, keyboard player and manager Doug Melbourne will be leaving the band to concentrate on his other band, Melbourne (and for all we know, grow cabbages and children). ReGenesis will be auditioning new keyboard players in the coming months. Taking over the ReGenesis manager's position will be Manir Donaghue, famous for his organisational roles in Genesis conventions. Check out the ReGenesis web site for all the details. As well as the tour dates listed there, ReGenesis will also be performing "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" at The Limelight Club in Crewe on Octber 18, 2001.
The New Official Genesis Web Site
The latest in a series of official Genesis web sites has appeared - and this one is looking pretty good! The site (www.genesis-music.com) is owned by Hit & Run, and promises to be up to date, comprehensive, interactive, and will hopefully one day be a portal to all your Genesis shopping desires as well. More news as and when we get it.

Genesis DVD News
Plans are afoot for a new Genesis DVD package featuring live footage and promo videos from the band's history. It is likely to contain two discs; the first being a full concert from 1992's "We Can't Dance" tour supporting multiple camera selection; the second being a selection of the band's video hits, possibly including rare and previously unseen footage - for example the promo for the "I Know What I Like" single. Additionally, disc 2 may include archival footage that charts the history of the band throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's.
More news to follow soon!
The Pavilion
The Pavilion, which is to Anthony Phillips what TWR is to Genesis, has now found itself a new, permanent home at The Official Anthony Phillips Web Site. The new site contains just about everything you'll ever need to know about Ant - news, discographies, biographies and much more than TWR could ever have hoped to host. Best of luck to Alan (he's a brave man), site co-ordinator Jonathan Dann, and everyone else involved with the new web site.
Camino News
The latest mailshot from Steve Hackett's label, Camino Records, contains the following nuggets of joy:
Outwitting Hitler
Steve Hackett has provided the soundtrack to a new TV programme entitled "Outwitting Hitler", the story of Marian Pretzel, a Polish Jew who used his skills as a forger to assist the escape of many compatriots from Nazi occupied Poland.
The programme is scheduled to be screened by Showtime USA on April 22 at 7pm. At the moment, UK and European distribution is being sought for the programme - more details as we receive them.
Songbook Screening
TWR has received news of the screening date of the long-awaited "Genesis Songbook" programme - it will be shown on Sunday April 29, 2001 on Channel 5 at 11-35am. The programme will subsequently be released on video and DVD on the Eagle Rock label.
A Quick Genesis Family News Round-up
It's been a while since there was a news update at TWR - and then all of a sudden we get a load of newsworthy snippets. Here's a quick run-down:
Update - The Genesis Songbook
The "Genesis Songbook" now titled "From The Beginning" is scheduled to be screened by Channel 5 in the UK some time late in April with a subsequent DVD/video release.
Ant Phillips - The Missing Link
Voiceprint Records have re-issued Ant Phillips "Missing Links Volume Two: The Sky Road". The catalogue number is BP329CD, and the track listing is as follows:
Hackett Official Bootlegs
Steve Hackett's record company Camino Records are planning to release a series of "official bootlegs". We don't have much information on these archival recordings of Steve's gigs at the moment, but as soon as TWR learns anything, we'll let you know.
"Genesis Collectibles" by Peter Vickers - a quick review by Alan Hewitt
It seems that the profile of the band has risen sufficiently recently to encourage another long standing fan to try his hand at a Genesis book... As its title suggests; "Genesis Collectibles" is exactly that: a detailed and highly informative examination of the many different areas of Genesis memorabilia. I attempted a small look at this area myself in my own book, "Opening The Musical Box - A Genesis Chronicle" but nowhere near in as much detail as is on display here! And, ironically enough, Peter mentions my book in this one - favourably, I may add!
Peter has been a Genesis fan since the mid 1970's and has been an avid collector of all things Genesis ever since, and his love for the band shows in this project. Just about every area of collecting is covered here beginning with comprehensive sections on singles, cassettes and box set material. Of particular interest to me were the excellent sections on books, tickets and programmes which provided several additional snippets for the ever expanding gig guides as well as an absolute gold mine of visual information. So, whatever area of Genesis collecting is your particular "bag" then there will be something of interest for you in this weighty publication.
Peter is currently looking at having the project published although it is more likely that a private edition may be most likely. If you are interested in finding out more or if you may have material which you think might be of interest to Peter, then contact him at peter.vickers@hotmail.com.
Genesis in the Press
It would appear that the record and memorabilia press can't get enough of Genesis at the moment, with two separate monthly magazines both carrying Genesis-related cover stories. The February 2001 edition of "Record Buyer" contains a comparison of Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel as singers with Genesis, along with a short history of the band.
More interestingly, in the January 2001 edition of "Record Collector" is the news that an extremely rare reel-to-reel tape of previously unheard demos of pre-Trespass era recordings has recently been discovered. These four song demos, some of which were reworked to form songs such as "Looking For Someone" and "Anyway", are called "Provocation", "Frustration", "Manipulation" and "Resignation" and are all inspired by the work of artist Mick Jackson. The best news is that the half-inch reel-to-reel tape is being auctioned: for more details write to dragonframes@ozemail.com.au.
